Designing Spaces Where Stories Come Alive

Bold-heath began with a simple observation: readers deserve better spaces. Too many book lovers curl up in corners that were never designed for them, squinting in poor light, shifting on uncomfortable furniture, surrounded by distractions.

Founded in Toronto in 2019, we set out to change that. Our team combines interior design expertise with a genuine passion for literature and the reading experience.

Our Philosophy

We believe that where you read shapes what you remember. The physical environment influences how deeply we engage with text, how long we can sustain attention, and how much pleasure we derive from the act of reading itself.

Every project we undertake starts with listening. We want to understand not just your space but your relationship with books. How do you read? When do you read? What does your ideal reading session look like?

Design Principles

Our work is guided by several core principles that inform every decision:

  • Light comes first. Natural light affects mood, focus, and visual comfort. We design around light patterns throughout the day.
  • Comfort enables immersion. Seating must support hours of use without fatigue. We select and customize furniture for genuine comfort.
  • Clutter breaks concentration. Storage solutions keep your current reads accessible while maintaining visual calm.
  • Acoustics matter. Sound-absorbing materials and strategic placement create pockets of quiet within busy homes.
  • Personal touches create belonging. Your reading space should reflect your literary identity and aesthetic preferences.

Our Team

Bold-heath brings together interior designers, carpenters, and project managers who share a love of books. Our lead designer has over fifteen years of residential interior experience. Our craftspeople specialize in custom millwork and built-in furniture.

What unites us is the conviction that readers deserve spaces as thoughtfully crafted as the books they love.

"Working with Bold-heath felt like collaborating with fellow book lovers who happened to be brilliant designers. They understood what I was trying to create before I could fully articulate it."

Our Process

Every reading sanctuary begins as a conversation. Here's how we bring your vision to life:

Discovery

We start with a detailed consultation, either in person or virtually. We tour your space, discuss your reading habits, and understand your aesthetic preferences. This foundation informs everything that follows.

Design Development

Our design team creates concept boards and detailed plans tailored to your space. We present options for layouts, materials, colours, and furniture. You're involved at every stage, refining the vision until it feels right.

Material Selection

We source high-quality materials that serve both function and beauty. Wood species for shelving, fabrics for seating, lighting fixtures that provide perfect illumination. Each element is chosen with purpose.

Installation

Our team handles all construction and installation work. We coordinate trades, manage timelines, and ensure quality at every step. Most projects are completed within two to four weeks, depending on scope.

Final Touches

Once construction ends, we add finishing details: proper shelving organization, lighting adjustments, and accessory placement. We walk through the completed space with you, making any final refinements.
